Some people mark time in years and seventy years is indeed a milestone. But in the case of Mr Madan Bahal, it feels less like a number and more like a measure of influence. Influence that has shaped an industry, built institutions, mentored generations, and quietly redefined what Public Relations in India, could and should, stand for. Founder, pioneer, institution builder, mentor, the man many in the industry simply call “The King of PR” - Madan Bahal’s journey mirrors the evolution of Indian PR itself.
What makes this moment special is his work’s relevance. At 70, Madan Bahal is not being celebrated for what he was, but for what he continues to be: curious, restless, sharp, and always a few steps ahead. From creating Adfactors PR into a category-defining firm, to steering it through eras, from IPO communications to reputation management at scale, his impact is best told through the voices of those who have walked alongside him, learned from him, and been shaped by his thinking.
As he turns 70, the Indian PR & Communications industry steps forward to celebrate the industry pioneer and his contributions and impact.

Rajesh Chaturvedi, Co-Founder and Chairman, Adfactors PR, reflects on a partnership spanning over four decades,
“As he turns 70, I do not celebrate his age. I celebrate his impact. On me. On our teams. On the profession. On everyone fortunate enough to have worked with him. As I look back on nearly five decades with Madan, I do not see a timeline. I see moments. Conversations. Risks we took when no one was watching. Battles we fought when no one believed, and the quiet satisfaction of building something that would one day become The Adfactors Group. We met 46 years ago, have been partners for 44 years, and have worked shoulder to shoulder with Madan over these years. Madan has always been the quintessential “Idea’s Man.” Restless, curious, energetic, and with a childlike curiosity to continuously learn. He can see around corners. He can sense opportunity before it is visible. Many of Adfactors’ defining moments began with one of Madan’s simple sentences. “Why can’t we do this?” That question has today helped build an institution.”

For many, working with him has felt like trying to keep pace with someone perpetually ahead of the curve. Arun Kumar Ohri, Director - Planning at Adfactors puts it with characteristic simplicity, stating,
“23 years with Madan has been a kind of race where he is ahead most of the time.”
Arwa Husain, Director, Adfactors PR, and the other members of Adfactors PR family prepared a deeply personal gift to honour his journey and reflected on what makes Madan Bahal truly exceptional. “What do you give someone who has everything? When Madan Sir was turning 60, I put together a book called Charaiveti - The Philosophy of Madan Bahal. It traced his journey and carried messages from the many lives he had touched. Today, as he turns 70, what strikes me most is that he carries the same energy and rigour that I’ve known for the last 18 years.

Madan: A Life, Lightly Sketched brings together moments from his life. Through these sketches, I’ve tried to capture the in-between moments — the habits, convictions and quiet humour that define him.”
Industry veterans acknowledge not just the scale of what was built, but its significance to India’s corporate ecosystem. Ambi M G Parameswaran, Brand Strategist and Founder, Brand-Building.com, states,
“Madan Bahal is a true PR veteran. He and Rajesh Chaturvedi managed to build a strong institution , AdFactors, that played a very important role in spreading the IPO culture in India. Over the years they have successfully pivoted the agency towards a broader Public Relations advisory, to become the undisputed market leader.”

Sandeep Ajgaonkar, Senior VP, Adfactors PR, captures the sentiment succinctly,
“Legends comes in Limited Edition only. And 70 years in, the "Madan Edition" remains the gold standard—original, inimitable, and always ahead of the curve. Here’s to celebrating the man who turned "Adfactors" into a synonym for "No. 1." Into a synonym for "PR" and "Reputation Management: From dominant IPO mandates to becoming the undisputed leader in Reputation Management, Madan has ensured Adfactors PR stays at the top.”

Adding to the chorus of voices celebrating his enduring influence, Clare Parsons, Chair, Development Committee, Paul Smith’s Foundation, said,
“Happy birthday to an inspiring leader; so much to celebrate, so many achievements, so much impact in so many ways. Here’s to so much more ahead.”
For those he mentored, the lessons went far beyond business metrics. Arpit Garg, President, Weber Shandwick India and Head of Weber Advisory India, expresses,
“It’s not easy to write a short post about someone who mentored you for years. During my time at Adfactors PR, I had the opportunity to work closely with Madan Bahal. What stayed with me most was not achievement in the conventional sense, but something quieter and more instructive. He has taught me that achievers tend to develop clarity around what truly deserves attention and then apply sustained focus, without distraction or second-guessing. Growth follows that focus. Numbers may reflect it, but they are only one of many indicators. As he marked his 70th birthday recently, wishing him good health and a continued journey of purpose.”
Together, these voices form a collective portrait, not just of a man turning 70, but of a force that helped define an industry. And as Indian PR continues to evolve, one thing remains certain: Madan Bahal’s influence will continue to be felt, long after the celebrations end.
