The last fortnight has been filled with some high-level action at Sun Network. After completing just over a year and a half with the Group, Ajay Vidyasagar, Chief Operating Officer, Sun TV, has put in his papers. Vidyasagar has been unavailable for comments for the last two weeks on the development and Sun Network, too, has not given any comments on this yet. It is also learnt from sources in the know that Sanjay Reddy, who is the Senior VP at Sun TV Network, is likely to replace Vidyasagar and take over as COO for Sun TV. Reddy, too, was not available for comments.
It is also understood that Sun is elevating Tony D’Silva as Group CEO with responsibilities across all Sun businesses, including DTH, movies, print, television and aviation (SpiceJet). There are no confirmations from Sun officials on this development either. D’Silva is currently spearheading Sun18 Media Services South Company – the distribution alliance between Sun Network and Network18.
The Indian media industry nonetheless has been discussing various reasons that led to Vidyasagar’s exit from the organisation. While there are no official confirmations on this, it is believed that the team that joined Sun TV along with Vidyasagar too would be leaving the company. The names included in this begin with Sun TV’s Programming Head Ravi Menon, who had joined the organisation shortly after Vidyasagar, in October 2009.
As is known, both Vidyasagar and Menon were at STAR India prior to joining Sun Network.
Prior to joining Sun, Vidyasagar was President, STAR India, and has over 20 years of experience in brand management, content creation, sales and new business. At Sun, Vidyasagar had played a crucial role in the various alliances that Sun had formed in the last 15 months, including the formation of Sun18 Media Services. Sun18 today distributes a total of 33 channels across all platforms in India via all networks, including cable, DTH, IPTV, HITS and MMDS from Network18, Viacom18, Sun Network and Disney India Network.
Reddy has a rich experience of 20 years in sales, distribution and general management in media and entertainment industries. In this span, he has been associated with some of the largest media firms in India, including Zee Network, Walt Disney, Sony Entertainment, ESPN-STAR Sports, and Bennett Coleman & Co Ltd.
