Joel Kaplan has announced his decision to step down as Chief Global Affairs Officer at Meta after more than 15 years with the company.
In a LinkedIn post, Kaplan said, “After more than 15 years at Meta, I’ve decided the time is right for me to move on from my role as Chief Global Affairs Officer. It’s been an extraordinary journey and opportunity, and I’m very proud of the team we built and work we did. I will always be grateful to Mark Zuckerberg and Sheryl Sandberg for bringing me in all those years ago and supporting me and my work all along the way.”
Kaplan also added that he would remain at the company for a few months to help with the transition before moving on.
Kaplan joined Meta in 2011 after a career in public service. He previously served as Deputy Chief of Staff for Policy under US President George W Bush, and prior to that as the Deputy Director of the Office of Management and Budget, and Special Assistant to the President for Policy.
He also served for four years as an artillery officer in the United States Marine Corps. Kaplan began his professional career as a law clerk for Fourth Circuit Court of Appeals Judge J Michael Luttig and later served as a law clerk to Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia.
