US President Donald Trump has selected conservative commentator Katie Zacharia as the next White House press secretary, making her the sixth person to hold the administration’s chief spokesperson role across his two terms.
Zacharia currently works at Trump Media & Technology Group and previously served briefly as a spokesperson at the Department of Homeland Security (DHS). She has also worked on Trump’s election campaigns, including efforts in key battleground states, according to the president.
Announcing the appointment on Truth Social on Friday, Trump described Zacharia as a loyal supporter and praised her record of backing his political movement, Make America Great Again (MAGA). He said he expected her to work effectively with the media, the American public and his administration.
Zacharia acknowledged the appointment in a post on X, calling the opportunity to serve Trump and the American people at the country’s 250-year milestone an honour.
She succeeds Karoline Leavitt, who left the White House in August and has reportedly taken up a role with Fox News.
