Gopakumar R Nair Takes Charge as Secretary General of AAAI

  • The Advertising Agencies Association of India (AAAI) has appointed Gopakumar R. Nair as Secretary General, effective October 1, 2026.
  • Nair, who joined AAAI in August, succeeds Sudesh Kapoor, who has led the organization for nearly 20 years and will remain as Senior Advisor.
  • Nair has over 35 years of experience in the advertising and media industry, including significant tenures at WPP/GroupM and Madison.
  • AAAI President Srinivasan K. Swamy expressed confidence in Nair's ability to contribute to the association and the industry, while Nair emphasized his commitment to strengthening the advertising ecosystem.

The Advertising Agencies Association of India (AAAI) has appointed Gopakumar R. Nair as its  Secretary General, effective October 1, 2026. 

Nair joined AAAI in August and has since been undergoing a structured induction. He takes over from Sudesh Kapoor,  who has led the AAAI Secretariat for nearly two decades. 

Kapoor will continue his  association with AAAI as Senior Advisor. 

Nair brings with him over 35 years of experience in the advertising and media industry, including  21 years with WPP/GroupM and eight years with Madison. 

Srinivasan K. Swamy, President, AAAI said “We are pleased to welcome Gopakumar Nair as Secretary  General of AAAI. His extensive experience in the advertising and media industry, together with his  understanding of commercial operations and his longstanding engagement with industry  stakeholders, will be valuable to the Association. We look forward to his contribution as AAAI  continues to build on its strong foundation and serve the interests of the industry.” 

Gopakumar R. Nair said, “I am honoured to have the opportunity to serve the advertising industry  through AAAI. I look forward to working closely with the Board, our members and industry  stakeholders and contributing to the Association's continued efforts to strengthen the industry and  its ecosystem.”
