FICCI ropes in Anant Swarup as Secretary General

Swarup brings to the role over three decades of distinguished experience in public policy, trade remedies, logistics and regulatory reform

  • Anant Swarup has been appointed as the new Secretary General of the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI), effective April 14, 2026.

The Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI) has appointed Anant Swarup as its new Secretary General, effective from April 14, 2026. His appointment comes at an important time for the Indian industry and further strengthens the organisation’s leadership team.

Swarup brings more than 30 years of experience in areas such as public policy, trade regulations, logistics, regulatory reforms and international negotiations. Over the years, he has held several senior positions in the Government of India and has also worked in the private sector.

A 1992-batch Indian Railway Personnel Service (IRPS) officer, Swarup has served in important roles including Additional Secretary in the Department of Commerce under the Ministry of Commerce & Industry, Director General of Trade Remedies, Executive Director to the Union Minister of Railways, and First Secretary representing India at the World Trade Organization (WTO) in Geneva.

With his appointment, FICCI has further strengthened its top management team, while Jyoti Vij will continue in her role as Director General.

Swarup has an MBA, LLB, MSc and BSc in Zoology. He also holds a Master’s Certificate in Sustainable Infrastructure and Finance.
