Chaitanya Kalbag has stepped down as Editor of Business Today and Money Today. Kalbag had joined the India Today Group in June 2010.
According to sources, Kalbag announced his decision to step down to his team yesterday, followed by an internal mail.
In his last assignment as Publishing Director with LexisNexis India from July 2008 to July 2009, Kalbag was responsible for publishing India’s most storied books in the legal, tax and regulatory fields. Prior to LexisNexis, Kalbag was Editor-in-Chief of Hindustan Times for 11 months.
He was the first Asian to rise to one of the most senior editorial positions at Reuters, where he had spearheaded all print, online, picture and television news coverage between 2000 and 2006. His tenure included the 2000 Sydney Olympics, the aftermath of the 9/11 terror attacks in the US and the war in Afghanistan, the 2004 Indonesian earthquake and tsunami and the SARS outbreak. Kalbag’s career with Reuters spanned nearly a quarter century, with assignments in India, Japan, Hong Kong, the Philippines and Singapore. During this period, he attended a management programme at the University of Michigan Business School in 1999. Between 1999 and 2000, he managed the Y2K transition for all Reuters customers in South Asia as Managing Director based in Mumbai.
Kalbag returned to India in September 2006, capping a strong six years as Managing Editor of Reuters News across 35 Asian countries stretching from Afghanistan to New Zeeland.
He had won the Rajika Kripalani Young Journalist Award in 1977, the Sanskriti Award for Journalism for 1982, and the India Today-PUCL Human Rights Award in 1983. Kalbag was also included in An Anthology of Bombay Poetry, 1977.For more updates, be socially connected with us on
