Anil Kumar Lahoti, Chairman, Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has reportedly been elected as the new Chairman of the South Asian Telecommunication Regulators' Council (SATRC). Lahoti was earlier SATRC’s Vice Chairman.

Lahoti will succeed Md. Mohiuddin Ahmed, Chairman of Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC).

The announcement regarding the appointments was made during the 25th meeting of the SATRC being held in New Delhi, from November 11–13.

The SATRC has as members heads of the regulatory bodies of nine South Asian countries namely, Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Iran, Maldives, Nepal, Pakistan and Sri Lanka. Affiliate members from these countries are also taking active participation in SATRC activities.
