Himabindu Chitta, an insights and strategy professional, has been appointed as JioStar’s head of digital growth strategy across South markets. This appointment comes after the successful establishment of a joint venture between Reliance Industries Limited, Viacom18 Media, and The Walt Disney Company.
Previously, Chitta was responsible for Strategy and Operations for Disney+Hotstar in Telugu, Tamil and Malayalam. Here, she collaborated with content, marketing, commercial, finance and tech teams to ensure optimal outcomes on content strategy, content development (Hotstar specials), movie acquisition and launch calendar.
Overall, she handled various responsibilities at Disney Star for more than 15 years, starting as a management trainee in 2009.
Chitta was also associated with Star India for three years as the Strategy Head for Star Vijay from 2017 to 2020.
She holds a PGDM degree from MICA in Communications, Market Research, Media Management.
With Reliance holding a 56% majority stake, the joint venture merges the media assets of Viacom18, JioCinema, and Star India, forming a media conglomerate valued at approximately Rs 70,352 crore (US$8.5 billion). Backed by an investment of Rs 11,500 crore (US$1.4 billion) from Reliance, the new entity will operate 100 TV channels, produce over 30,000 hours of content annually, and reach a digital subscriber base of more than 50 million.
