News channels garnered 146 mn unique viewers on Delhi Elections counting day: BARC India
Total news viewership witnessed a growth of 81% whereas Hindi news viewership saw 84% growth on the counting day
Any big news event tends to send viewerships across TV news channels skyrocketing. Whether it's a state election or a general election, in the light of these events, new channels observe a sharp spike in viewership.
This year, the Delhi Assembly Elections also worked its magic on the news viewership. Total news viewership witnessed a growth of 81 per cent in viewership across news channels, including Hindi, English and regional as compared to growth over the previous four weeks. Total news viewership for the counting day was 262 million impressions. Total news viewership also witnessed 146 million unique viewers on the same day.
On the other hand, Hindi news viewership grew by 84 per cent and recorded 243 million impressions on the same day. Whereas Hindi news category alone saw 129 million unique viewers on 11 February.
On the counting day, the English news viewership ( AB Male 22+, India) was 1180 million impressions as per the BARC India data. Republic TV led the English news genre list with 597 (000s) impressions followed by Times Now on the second position with 193 (000s) impressions and India Today Television on the third spot with 96 (000s) impressions. NDTV 24x7 and CNN News 18 bagged fourth and fifth spot with 77 (000s) impressions respectively.
In the Hindi News genre in Hindi Speaking Market (15+), Aaj Tak led the market with 39, 407 (000s) impressions followed by ABP News on the second position with 30, 805 (000s) and India TV on third with 22, 437 (000s) impressions. News 18 India and Zee News stood at number four and five with 21424 (000s) and 21, 111(000s) impressions respectively on the counting day.
