Veteran journalist and food critic Vir Sanghvi has praised R Sukumar following his decision to step down as Editor-in-Chief of Hindustan Times, calling his contribution to the newspaper one of the high points in its history.
HT Media Group has announced a leadership transition at Hindustan Times, with Kunal Pradhan set to join the organisation on October 1, 2026, as Acting Editor-in-Chief. He will take over as Editor-in-Chief in mid-November from Sukumar, who has decided to move on.
Reacting to the development in a social media post, Sanghvi said everyone who cares about Hindustan Times and its place in India's newspaper history "owes a huge debt of gratitude" to Sukumar, who he said played an important role in stabilising the newspaper and running it with "flair, skill, decency & fairness."

Sanghvi also acknowledged the challenges of running a newspaper amid political and financial pressures, while praising Sukumar for maintaining the quality of the publication.
"When the history of the HT is written his contribution will remain among the high points and he will be remembered as one of the paper's best editors," Sanghvi wrote.
