Renowned poet, filmmaker, journalist and former parliamentarian Pritish Nandy passed away on Wednesday. He was 73.
Former Prasar Bharati CEO Jawhar Sircar remembered Nandy's multifaceted contributions to literature, journalism, and cinema and said he has left an indelible mark on the cultural landscape.
Jawhar Sircar wrote:
“Lost yet another friend, Pritish Nandy — about my age, just a little older.
He was an explosion of talent — poet with 40 books, translator, parliamentarian, media and television personality, animal rights activist, filmmaker, and creator of TV and streaming content.
Pritish served as a member of the Rajya Sabha of the Shiv Sena — imagine, a Bengali of Mumbai representing Maharashtrian aspirations.
He was group publisher of Times of India and editor of Illustrated Weekly.
Great as a friend — we met last at a cafe in the Fort area of Mumbai and chatted till they almost threw us out.
Will miss a bubbly, creative and daring friend”.
Industry leaders bid farewell to Pritish Nandy and remembered the legacy and impact he had on the arts and society.
