A fitness enthusiast, nature lover and a trendsetter in many ways, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has been a brand in himself.
The thrice-elected Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi turns 74 today.
Known for his oratory skills, Modi has also made headlines for his styling choices, especially what is now popularly called the Modi jacket much like the Nehru jacket.
Narendra Damodardas Modi or ‘Naren’ as fondly called by his mother, he was born on 17th September 1950, in Vadnagar, Gujarat. His first-known political activity was in 1971 when he joined a Jana Sangh Satyagraha in Delhi led by Atal Bihari Vajpayee. According to Modi, he was briefly held in Tihar Jail at the time of the Satyagraha. In 1978, he got his Bachelor's Degree in Political Science from Delhi University and then went on to pursue his Masters from Gujarat University in the same.
In October 2001, Modi replaced Keshubhai Patel as Chief Minister of Gujarat, due to Patel's deteriorating health. He was the CM of Gujarat during the Godhra riots of 2002. He continued to be the CM for 2.5 terms or roughly 12.5 years as he had to resign from his CM seat to contest for the PM elections.
The Prime Minister recently introduced the National Creators Award to celebrate independent content creators.
As the country celebrates his birthday today, schools have been given a holiday in Odisha as the PM launches Subhadra Yojana in Bhubaneswar.
