Star, which holds the digital broadcast rights for VIVO IPL 2016 is looking to charge between Rs 5.5 crore to Rs 8.5 crore for sponsorship rights on Hotstar and Starsports.com, as learnt by exchange4media through reliable industry sources.
A “Co-presenter” package for the entire tournament would cost a brand Rs 8.5 crore. This includes video spots (6/match, 30 secs) on Hotstar and Starsports.com along with banner inventory and logo placement on Starsports.com confirm sources.
An “Associate” sponsorship will, meanwhile, set a brand back by Rs 5.5 crore and will entitle the sponsor to 4 video ad spots and 2 L Bands (as opposed to 6 L Bands for a co-sponsor). Apart from this, the brand will also receive banner inventory and logo placement on Starsports.com.
Apart from the two main sponsorship packages, Star is also looking to sell spot ad spots for the matches. These go from Rs 2.15 crore for one 30-second spot per match (entire tournament) to Rs 1.1 crore and Rs 1.2 crore for one 15 second sport per match (depending on matches selected by the advertiser). On the other hand, sponsorship for specialized features like Super 4s, Action Replay, Fall of Wickets, etc. are also available and cost Rs 2.5 crore and Rs 4.5 crore, depending on the property.
At time of writing, it seems that Star was in the midst of locking in the co-sponsor and associate sponsor/s though this might change in the coming days. Amity University seems to have come on board as a sponsor for the ‘Milestones’ section on Hotstar and Starsports.com; a deal valued at Rs 2.5 crore as per the rates sourced by us.
However, Star seems to be ‘flexible’ with the asking price as confirmed to us by one brand manager, whose brand will be beginning its online campaign for the IPL soon. So, it is not clear if these rates will be stuck with for all deals. Star had not replied to our email at the time of filing this report .
