The National Award winning voter awareness campaign has been kicked off with a series of on-ground activities for the Gujarat Assembly elections

Zee News embarks on ‘Aapka Vote Aapki Taqat’ campaign

In its quest to address the issue of decreasing voter percentage, Zee News has rolled out ‘Aapka Vote Aapki Taqat’ campaign supported by the Election Commission of India.

The ‘Aapka Vote Aapki Taqat’ campaign seeks to show the importance of voting and to sensitise voters to ensure a responsive and accountable government is in place.

Keeping in view the ensuing Gujarat Assembly elections, which are scheduled for December 13 and 17, a series on-ground activities under the banner ‘Aapka Vote Aapki Taqat’ were kicked off in the state from November 15. As part of this campaign, ground events are being conducted in colleges and universities of Surat, Gandhinagar, Rajkot, Vadodara, Ahmedabad, Bhavnagar and Jamnagar to educate the youth about their rights and responsibilities. This includes signature campaign, skits, rallies and street plays across the state.

Zee News has been taking this initiative to various states where elections have been announced since the series started in 2009. In the past, Zee News has conducted the campaign in the Assembly elections of Maharashtra, Haryana, Arunachal Pradesh, Bihar and West Bengal, and the recent 2012 Assembly elections.

The Election Commission of India has also announced that Zee News has won the National Media Award on Voter Education of Election Commission of India for its campaign towards creating voters’ awareness in the Assembly elections (January-March 2012), especially in Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand.

Rohit Kumar, Marketing Head, Zee News, said, “The voter education initiatives are being spread not just on television, but also through radio, the Internet, mobile and other conventional mediums covering the cities, towns and continuing down to hundreds of villages.”

Apart from winning the national award this year due to its wide reach, the campaign became the nation's largest voter education campaign and got registered in the Limca Book of Records.
