Sunil Lulla, a former CEO of BARC, has co-authored A Handbook for Effective Management for Boards. The handbook is a guide aimed at helping corporate directors strengthen governance and reputation management.

The book, developed in collaboration with Board Stewardship, distils Lulla’s four decades of leadership experience across media, brand-building and board advisory roles. Positioned as a practical playbook, it outlines why corporate reputation has become a board-level priority, how directors can integrate it into strategy, and the frameworks needed to build resilience in an era of heightened scrutiny and rapid information flow.

The handbook provides boards with actionable tools to navigate today’s complex landscape of risk, regulation and stakeholder expectations. From crisis preparedness and transparent communication to ESG oversight and culture-building, the book emphasises that reputation is no longer a communications function but a core governance responsibility. With contributions and endorsements from industry leaders, it serves as both a reference manual and a strategic compass for directors seeking to embed reputation stewardship at the heart of decision-making.

Board Stewardship, which has built a global community of directors and governance professionals, said the handbook responds to a rising demand for practical, jargon-free resources that bridge regulatory understanding with real-world boardroom challenges. By combining lived experiences, expert insights and data-led frameworks, the publication aims to support boards in elevating their effectiveness and strengthening trust with investors, employees, policymakers and the wider public.
