Zupee cuts 170 jobs in regulatory reshuffle

The company says it is now going to focus on culturally rooted social games and short-form video entertainment

Online social gaming company Zupee has laid off 170 employees, nearly 30 per cent of its workforce. The major restructuring exercise is the result of the recently enacted Promotion and Regulation of Online Gaming Act, 2025. The company says it is now steering its focus towards culturally rooted social games and short-form video entertainment.

To cushion the impact of the layoffs, Zupee has rolled out an extensive employee support package. This includes extended financial security, with additional compensation tied to years of service, in some cases amounting to six months of pay. The company is also maintaining health insurance benefits for the full term and has established a dedicated ₹1 crore medical fund to ensure added security for affected staff.

In addition to financial relief, Zupee is offering career transition support. Employees will be given priority for future openings within the organization, while a dedicated placement team will collaborate with industry partners to facilitate external opportunities.
