Microsoft Corp. is reportedly laying off 650 employees from its Xbox gaming division. This is the third round of firing at the company this year as part of its cost-cutting measure after its $69 billion acquisition of Activision Blizzard in 2022.

Xbox CEO Phil Spencer reportedly sent a memo to staff on Thursday announcing the layoff. He said that mostly corporate and supporting functions will be affected, noting that move was to organise the business for “long-term success.”

Spencer emphasized that no games, devices experiences, or studios will be impacted by the job cuts.

The reports say that Xboys employees were anticipating further job cuts after Microsoft laid off 1,900 employees in January, many from Activision units and studios. The company closed four studios that were acquired as part of its $7.5 billion purchase of ZeniMax.
