It’s been more than half a week since Prasoon Joshi was conferred with the Lifetime Achievement Award at the Advertising Agencies Association of India (AAAI) honours, and if the standing ovation that night felt endless, the industry’s admiration since then has only grown louder.
Messages, memories and tributes continue to pour in from across advertising, cinema and poetry, each echoing a familiar sentiment: Joshi is not just an awardee, he is an institution. A rare creative force whose words have shaped brands, films and cultural memory with equal ease.

For Sam Balsara, Chairman, Madison World, Joshi’s stature lies in a rare duality the industry seldom witnesses. The ability to balance poetry and persuasion, art and advertising, without diluting either. “Being a poet, and a copywriter is a unique privilege that very few copywriters have and Prasoon is one of the very few of them, " said Balsara.
Filmmaker Ram Madhvani, Co-Founder and CEO, Equinox Films, captured the essence of Joshi not just as a copywriter or poet, but as a cultural mirror. Before sharing his Hindi poem dedicated to Joshi, Madhvani frames it as an observation from someone who has seen creativity up close, where language doesn’t just sell, but reveals.
In Madhvani’s telling, Joshi’s writing carries the scent of the soil, the rhythm of lived moments, and the ability to turn even the shortest brief into something deeply human. His lines don’t stop at ears, they travel straight to the heart of the country. And perhaps the greatest testament of trust, Madhvani admits, is this: if something bears Prasoon Joshi’s name, approval becomes effortless. The work, people simply believe, has to be good.
“Jab Prasoon likhte hain… toh desh ki mitti ki khushboo mehsoos hoti hai…
Woh kavita ko kaam nahi banate, kaam ko hi kavita bana dete hain…
Unki panktiyon mein zindagi ka koi bhi lamha—tees second se lekar teen ghante tak—ekdum saaf dikhne lagta hai…
Vigyapan ho ya kavita, baat tab banti hai jab woh sirf kaanon tak nahi, poore desh ke dil tak pahunchti ho…
Aur sach kahun–‘Yeh Prasoon Joshi ne likha hai’ keh dena hi kaafi hota hai.” – Ram Madhvani
Adding to the chorus is Ramesh Narayan, Founder, Canco Advertising Pvt Ltd, who brings a long-term, personal perspective shaped by decades of interaction. For Narayan, Joshi’s brilliance has never been limited to the page, it has consistently shown up in rooms, on stages, and in moments that demanded presence and empathy.
Recalling an Olive Crown Awards evening, Narayan shares how Joshi held the audience spellbound with impromptu, environment-themed poetry while waiting for the chief guest to arrive, an effortless blend of responsibility, sensitivity and showmanship.
Beyond the awards and accolades, Narayan underlines something easily missed but equally enduring: Joshi’s professionalism and humanity. “Prasoon is a multi-faceted person… a thorough professional. Not just a good professional but also a good human being… His work of course speaks volumes for his vast repertoire of skills, " said Ramesh Narayan.
As the congratulatory notes continue to roll in days after the AAAI honour, one thing is abundantly clear: Prasoon Joshi’s Lifetime Achievement Award doesn’t mark a culmination, it affirms a legacy already deeply embedded in India’s creative conscience.
In an industry driven by briefs, deadlines and metrics, Joshi remains that rare constant, someone who reminds advertising what it feels like when work becomes poetry, and poetry becomes collective memory.
