Zomato CEO Deepinder Goyal clears mystery behind ‘Temple’ wearable

Zomato CEO Deepinder Goyal has cleared the air around the mysterious gadget spotted on his temple in a recent viral photograph. Over the weekend, he shared a teaser on Instagram for ‘Temple’, confirming that the small gold module seen in earlier images is, in fact, a wearable device he has been developing.

Goyal describes Temple as a continuous brain-blood-flow monitoring wearable, designed to track cerebral blood flow in real time. The device ties into his ongoing exploration of how blood flow to the brain affects ageing, cognition and long-term health.

At the core of this project is Goyal’s “Gravity Aging Hypothesis”, which suggests that the downward pull of gravity over decades may reduce cerebral blood flow and contribute to the ageing process. While the hypothesis is unconventional, Goyal maintains that brain-blood-flow is already recognised as an important biomarker for longevity and cognitive performance. Temple, he says, is built to gather accurate data, even if the hypothesis is ultimately disproved.

Why the Hype?

The intrigue began when Goyal was photographed wearing a tiny gold device near his right temple, triggering widespread speculation online. With the Instagram reveal, the purpose of that device has now been confirmed: it was an early version of Temple.

Though the teaser offers no technical details, it marks the first official acknowledgment of the project. Temple is not a Zomato initiative; it is part of Goyal’s work through ‘Eternal’, the broader parent entity he founded to pursue long-term research and innovation outside the food-tech space.

Social Media Reaction drew mixed responses: “some asking for more updates about the launch and availability … while others criticised the concept behind it.”

Some people are flooding the comment section with, “temple is such a cool name” and, “Everything’s coming together, this launch is going to be huge,” calling temple a cool name.

Much about Temple remains unknown, from its capabilities to its intended audience. In a LinkedIn response, he clarified:

“While conducting research on the Gravity Aging Hypothesis, we had to make an experimental device to calculate Brain Flow accurately, real-time, and continuously. Been using it for a year, and I’ve been feeling that this could shape into an important wearable the world needs.”

For now, Goyal says the team is simply “getting there,” and the tech world will be watching closely to see what follows next.
