Delhi’s traffic had a different kind of jam on November 8, and it wasn’t because of rush hour. Stand-up comedian and YouTuber Samay Raina was back in town with his much-anticipated show Still Alive & Unfiltered at the Indira Gandhi Indoor Stadium, drawing such a massive crowd that the Delhi Traffic Police had to issue an advisory ahead of the event.

This marked his second live performance in Delhi after a global run across New York, Canada, and Australia. The excitement was palpable as fans poured in hours before the show began.

“Show toh main wapas launga”

The biggest headline of the night came straight from Samay himself. Midway through his act, he dropped a line that sent the crowd roaring, “Show toh main wapas launga” (I will bring back the show). The statement was enough for fans to start speculating that his controversial digital series India’s Got Latent could be making a comeback.

The show, which had earlier landed in controversy following a viral clip involving panelist Ranveer Allahbadia, was forced to halt after police complaints and online backlash. Samay, along with other members of the judging panel, faced an FIR and intense criticism. During the Delhi performance, Samay addressed how that episode took a toll on him personally, calling it one of the toughest phases of his life.

In an earlier video, Samay had explained why he refused lucrative OTT deals for India’s Got Latent. “Thanks to memberships, I’m already in profit. Do you get it? And that makes me happy because right now, OTT platforms are offering me huge sums to bring India’s Got Latent to their platforms. But the problem? They’ll have too much control over the content,” he said.

He made it clear that he wanted the content to stay raw and unfiltered. “I don’t want to cut this joke, I don’t want to mute certain things. I want it to stay raw. Controversy might follow, but I’d rather keep it raw,” he said in the same clip.

Comedy meets brand creativity

Beyond the stage, Samay Raina has been making a mark in the ad world too. He recently featured in AirLearn’s new campaign, where he turns everyday flight announcements into a comedy sketch. The ad also features Kunal Kamra in a cameo as a co-passenger who surprises everyone with fluent Tamil, thanks to the app.

The campaign breaks away from the usual “learn a new language” messaging and leans into situational humour and chaos, something Samay excels at.

Something similar was seen during his Nothing India’s Diwali campaign, in the ad Samay cleverly spoofs typical festive advertising. The video begins with the usual heartwarming Diwali visuals before breaking the fourth wall with sarcastic humour.

Samay’s comic timing turns the ad into a parody that pokes fun at overused festive clichés while staying true to Nothing’s witty, minimalist personality.
