Unilever has appointed Michael Stewart as its new Chief Corporate Affairs and Communications Officer, following the departure of Rebecca Marmot, who is stepping down after nearly two decades with the company.  In his new role, he will oversee communications, sustainability, public policy, and government relations for the global consumer goods giant.

Stewart joins Unilever from PwC, where he served as Global Leader for Corporate Affairs and Communications. Stewart brings more than two decades of experience in corporate communications and reputation management. Before his time at PwC, he spent over a decade at Edelman, serving as Global Vice Chair and previously as European CEO. Earlier in his career, he spent 12 years at McKinsey & Company as Partner and Global Director of Communications.

Marmot announced her departure in a LinkedIn post, reflecting on her time at Unilever and welcoming Stewart to the role. “In July, I announced that I would be stepping down as chief sustainability and corporate affairs officer at Unilever to embark on a new opportunity and now that time has come. Leading Unilever’s external engagement and sustainability work globally has been absolutely brilliant. Before leaving, I welcomed on board and handed over the reins to the wonderful Michael Stewart. I’ll be cheering him and the amazing team on as I navigate my next adventure,” she wrote.

Stewart’s appointment underscores Unilever’s focus on strengthening its reputation and advancing its sustainability commitments amid growing global expectations for corporate transparency and responsible business leadership.
