The Washington Post has announced that its Publisher and Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Will Lewis, is stepping down, following a week marked by significant staff layoffs at the newspaper. The move comes just days after the company revealed plans to cut nearly one-third of its workforce.
Lewis, who assumed the role in January 2024, will exit the organisation in February 2026. He was appointed in November 2023 to succeed Fred Ryan and joined the Post after previously serving as CEO of Dow Jones & Company and Publisher of The Wall Street Journal.
The newspaper said its Chief Financial Officer, Jeff D’Onofrio, will take over as acting publisher and CEO. D’Onofrio joined the publication in June last year. He has previously held senior roles at companies including Google, Tumblr and Yahoo News.
