Umesh Bansal has stepped down from Zee Entertainment Enterprises Ltd (ZEEL).
Bansal was entrusted with additional charge of Zee’s music business, alongside his role as Chief Business Officer for the movies division. The move, announced in July 2024, was part of the company’s broader strategy to drive synergies between its content verticals and unlock greater monetisation opportunities.
At the time, the mandate reflected Zee’s push towards resource optimisation, with a sharper focus on profitability, content integration and scale across its entertainment portfolio. Bansal continued to report to Managing Director and CEO Punit Goenka, underlining the strategic importance of the role.
The music business, previously led by Anurag Bedi, was seen as a key growth lever for the company, especially amid the rapid expansion of digital streaming and the increasing value of music intellectual property. Bansal’s expanded responsibilities were aimed at strengthening Zee’s position in this space while aligning it more closely with its film business.
Bansal has been a long-standing executive at Zee and has played a key role in shaping its movies business over the years. His next move remains unclear at the time of filing this report.
