NIPSEA Group, a subsidiary of Nippon Paint Holdings, has appointed Sharad Malhotra as the new Managing Director of Nippon Paint India. His appointment will take effect on December 1, 2025. He will succeed Jon Tan and report directly to Group CEO Wee Siew Kim. With this move, Malhotra becomes the first Indian to lead the company in this role.

Based in Japan, Nippon Paint is currently the fourth-largest paint company in the world by revenue and the leading paints and coatings brand in the Asia Pacific region. The decision to appoint Malhotra reflects the company’s strong focus on expanding its presence in India, which it considers a key long-term growth market.

Malhotra has been with Nippon Paint for 15 years and has played a major role in building several of its business segments in India, including automotive refinish, wood coatings, and light industrial coatings. As a member of the company’s Board of Directors, he has also been involved in strategic decisions, including the company’s recent expansion into new areas such as paint protection films and related product categories.

Wee Siew Kim, Co-President of Nippon Paint Holdings and Group CEO of the NIPSEA Group, said Malhotra has consistently delivered strong results and contributed significantly to the company’s global auto refinish business from India. He added that Malhotra’s deep understanding of the business and proven leadership make him well suited to guide the India operations into their next phase of growth.

Sharad Malhotra said he is honoured to take on the responsibility at a time when the Indian market is evolving rapidly. He noted that India presents both opportunities and challenges and expressed his commitment to strengthening the company’s capabilities while supporting customers and partners.

In his new role, Malhotra will oversee overall strategy and business expansion in India. He will focus on driving steady growth across all paint segments, while also continuing to lead the company’s global expansion in the automotive aftermarket category, which he helped establish in the country.

India remains an important market for Nippon Paint due to its large young population, growing economy, and expanding infrastructure. The company believes the country offers strong potential for long-term development.

As Nippon Paint India enters a new phase under Malhotra’s leadership, it aims to build on the Group’s experience across Asian markets and leverage its strong distribution network, advanced technology, skilled workforce, and growing ecosystem. The company remains focused on sustainable growth and delivering value to customers, partners, and stakeholders in India’s competitive paint industry.
