Rene Gerhard appointed Managing Director of BMW Group Asia

  • Rene Gerhard will become the new Managing Director of BMW Group Asia starting February 1, 2026, bringing experience from various countries including Germany, India, Australia, and Thailand.
  • Ritu Chandy, Senior Vice President for the region, expressed enthusiasm for Gerhard's appointment and his ability to lead the diverse markets in Asia.
  • Lars Nielsen, the current Managing Director, will move to Munich to take on the role of Head of Sales Steering & Strategy for the Asia Pacific, Eastern Europe, Middle East, and Africa regions.
  • Chandy acknowledged Nielsen's contributions, highlighting BMW's leadership in the premium market in Singapore and local production initiatives in Vietnam during his tenure.

Rene Gerhard will join BMW Group Asia as our new Managing Director as of 1 February 2026. Rene has been with the BMW Group since 2002 and brings extensive experience in Germany, India, Australia and Thailand.

Lars Nielsen, the current Managing Director, will relocate to Munich, Germany to assume the newly established role of Head of Sales Steering & Strategy for Region Asia Pacific, Eastern Europe, Middle East and Africa.

Under his leadership, BMW secured the number one position in the premium market in Singapore and is leading the premium segment across the BMW Group Asia region. Lars also oversaw the start of local production in Vietnam and helped guide the BMW Group Indonesia team in expanding its footprint for both the BMW and MINI brands across the country,” added Ritu Chandy.
