The buzz around a potential leadership rejig at Applause Entertainment continues to gather momentum, with industry sources now indicating that Priti Shahani is among the many names being considered for the top role at the studio.
Multiple executives tracking the development say Shahani’s name has cropped up in recent discussions within industry circles, alongside many other contenders, as the Aditya Birla Group evaluates leadership options for its content arm.
“Priti brings a strong blend of creative instinct and commercial understanding. She has worked across films and understands what it takes to build scalable IP,” said a senior industry executive on condition of anonymity.
Another source noted that Applause’s next phase of growth may require a leader who can bridge long-format storytelling with platform-driven strategies. “The mandate is no longer just about creating critically acclaimed shows. It’s about building franchises, monetisation layers and expanding across formats,” the person added.
Applause Entertainment, under Sameer Nair, has built a strong reputation in premium storytelling with titles such as Scam 1992 and Criminal Justice, positioning itself as a key player in India’s streaming ecosystem.
Shahani, best known for her stint as President at Junglee Pictures, has backed a string of successful and content-led films including Raazi and Badhaai Ho. Her track record in mid-budget, high-concept storytelling is seen by some insiders as aligning with Applause’s evolving content strategy.
“Studios today are looking for leaders who can think beyond films or series in isolation. The ability to build a content slate with longevity and cross-platform relevance is critical,” said another industry observer.
Queries sent to Applause Entertainment and the Aditya Birla Group remained unanswered at the time of filing. Shahani also did not respond to requests for comment.
The development comes amid ongoing speculation around leadership changes at Applause, with multiple names doing the rounds in recent weeks. While there is no official confirmation, Shahani’s inclusion in the mix underscores the group’s focus on experienced content leaders as it looks to scale its ambitions further.
