TV industry celebrates 25 years of ‘KBC’ and ‘Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi’

Amitabh Bachchan-hosted Kaun Banega Crorepati and Smriti Irani-starrer Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi — two of Indian television’s most iconic shows — recently completed 25 years since their debut. Both shows first aired on July 3, 2000, on Sony Entertainment Television and Star Plus, respectively. As they celebrate this milestone, the television industry is marking the occasion with tributes and reflections.
Several industry leaders have taken to LinkedIn to commemorate the moment. Sameer Nair, Managing Director of Applause Entertainment, wrote: “These two shows, and the many others that followed, instantly took Star Plus from a distant 3rd to an undisputed No. 1, a position it still holds today. #KBC continues to shine bright on #Sony, with a record 17th season due shortly. And a reboot of #KyunkiSBKBT is expected soon on #JioHotStar.” Nair was the programme head of Star TV back in 2000.
Others from across the media and entertainment industry also joined in the celebration. Among them were Shyam PV (VP – Business Development, Hathway Cable & Datacom Ltd), Ranita Kakkar (Music Monetisation, Saregama India Ltd), Chetna Shetty (Managing Partner, NUBE) and many others shared their appreciation for the shows and their lasting legacy.
