Total TV news consumption higher in PrimaVU than in currency panel: BARC India

As per the data for Week 18, DD National ranks one on the top ten channel list in PrimaVu homes, followed by Star Plus & Sony Sab

Since the lockdown commenced, news genre has been the higher contributor to the total TV consumption to the currency panel (NCCS A). The week 18 data shows that the share of the news genre, including business news, is higher in PrimaVU as compared to currency panel viewership.

As per the data, the contribution of news and business news to total TV for week 18 is much higher in PrimaVU. The share of news was 27.5% and business news was 1.3% whereas in the currency panel it was 21.1% and 0.2% respectively. News garnered 34327 impressions, whereas Business News achieved 1595 Impressions on PrimaVU.

However, in the top ten channels list on PrimaVU for week 18, DD National tops with 3642 impressions followed by Star Plus on the second position with 3586 impressions and Sony Sab on the third position with 3345 impressions.

Meanwhile, two news channels India TV and Aaj Tak bagged fourth and fifth spot with 3140 impressions and 3022 impressions respectively. Sony Entertainment Television bagged the sixth spot with 2984 impressions.

The rest of the four spots were occupied by Zee News on seventh with 2429 impressions, ABP News on eight with 2343 impressions, Colors on ninth with 2323 impressions and Zee Bangla on tenth with 2314 impressions.

Under PrimaVU programme theme, News/Business (98), Miscellaneous (104) and Serials (237) produced a higher yield (ROI) in PrimaVU.

Out of these, News/Business News and Miscellaneous had a better yield in PrimaVU as compared to currency panel (News/Business News 77 and Miscellaneous 90).

As compared to the currency panel, Reality Show (Yield – 101) and Talent Search (Yield – 160) show a higher yield in PrimaVU. In the currency panel, reality shows produced a yield of 95 whereas Talent Search produced a yield of 114.

Apart from reality shows, mythological/costume dramas produced a decent yield in both the panels (Premium Panel – 495 and Currency Panel - 547 being on the higher side). However, Comedies (Yield - 218) and Action/Thriller (Yield – 200) show a higher yield in PrimaVU as compared to currency panel.
