The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) on Friday held an Open House Discussion on its consultation paper regarding the regulatory framework for Ground-Based Broadcasters. At the event, broadcasters highlighted that GBBs should be treated on par with Satellite-Based Broadcasters (SBBs).
The open House discussion followed a consultation paper, released by TRAI on October 18, invited stakeholders to submit written comments until November 15 and counter-comments by November 29.
The paper defined broadcasters using satellite-based communication as SBBs and those employing terrestrial communication as GBBs. However, many stakeholders expressed concerns about the definition of terrestrial communication and urged TRAI to clarify the terms for GBBs in the consultation paper.
In contrast, the All India Digital Cable Federation (AIDCF) called for clear distinctions between GBBs and SBBs, asserting that their definitions should reflect their transmission mediums.
