The Uttar Pradesh government has introduced a new initiative mandating newspaper reading in state-run basic and secondary schools.
As per media reports, the directive was issued on December 23 by Partha Sarthi Sen Sharma, Additional Chief Secretary for Basic and Secondary Education. The order instructs schools to set aside 10 minutes during the daily morning assembly specifically for reading news from newspapers.
Under the initiative, students will present key highlights from editorial sections, covering national, international and sports news. The responsibility of reading out the news will rotate among students.
