Ad 'camouflaged' as headline catches PCI's eye amid Rajasthan assembly polls

The Press Council of India (PCI) has reportedly sent out show-cause notices to editors of many publications after an ad was allegedly "camouflaged' to look like a headline in a newspaper amid the Rajasthan assembly elections. The ad was published on November 20.
The PCI termed the publication of the banner headline "camouflaged" as a news headline below the newspaper masthead a violation of the Norms and Journalistic Conduct, 2022 with respect to the 2023 assembly elections of the state. It reportedly said in a statement that its Chairperson Justice (retired) Ranjana Prakash Desai has taken suo-motu cognizance of the matter published in the newspaper.
The publications are now expected to file a reply in response to the show-cause notices.
PCI has, however, not disclosed details about the contentious ad published in the newspaper.
