Rajdeep Sardesai launches own website; unveils new book on Elections

Veteran journalist Rajdeep Sardesai has launched his website (www.rajdeepsardesai.net) – Breaking News, which sports the tagline, ‘Credibility over Chaos’.

Sardesai, who has 26 years of experience in television journalism, recently stepped down as Editor-in-Chief of IBN18 Network. He has launched this website two months after quitting IBN18 Network. The website features Sardesai’s videos, columns and interviews, along with his Twitter handle @sardesairajdeep, which will enable users to read his tweets via the website.

In his message ‘Let the journey begin’, Sardesai welcomes readers to his ‘Breaking News’ world and writes, “This personal website is a space to share my journalism with you, to share my videos, blogs and columns. I belong to what I can best describe as a ‘penumbral’ generation of journalists: those who started in print, gradually moved to television, and are slowly coming to terms with the digital age. We are now in an age where content can be shared across platforms and where the gap between the journalist and the viewer/ reader/ netizen is constantly shrinking.”

He further writes, “Inclusive and interactive journalism is the way forward: a personal website to share news and views is part of that process. As I said, I am still unfamiliar with the demands of modern technology but am very keen to understand how the world of communication is changing. I am neither a curator of news nor a technology geek: I am an old fashioned newshound with a view. And that’s what this website will seek to do: create a space for robust opinion and a sharing of thoughts in the spirit of true democracy.”

Meanwhile, Sardesai also unveiled his new book ‘2014 – The Election that Changed India’, which will be released in November. Priced at Rs 599, the book can be pre-booked on Flipkart, Amazon and Crossword. The 2014 Indian general elections have been regarded as the most important elections in Indian history since 1977. It saw the decimation of the ruling Congress party, a spectacular victory for the BJP and a new style of campaigning that broke every rule in the political game.

In ‘2014 – The Election that Changed India’, Sardesai tracks the story of these pivotal elections through all the key players and the big news stories. Beginning with 2012, when Narendra Modi won the state elections in Gujarat for a third time but set his sights on a bigger prize, to the scandals that crippled Manmohan Singh and UPA 2 and moving to the back-room strategies of team Modi, the extraordinary missteps of Rahul Gandhi and the political dramas of an election year, Sardesai draws a panoramic picture of the year that changed India.

Born on May 24, 1965, Sardesai began his career in journalism in 1988. He became the City Editor of The Times of India’s Mumbai edition at the age of 26 and was with the paper for six years. He entered the field of television journalism in 1994, when he joined NDTV as Political Editor. He held several key positions in the group and was made Managing Editor of NDTV 24x7 and NDTV India.

He quit NDTV to start his own company, Global Broadcast News (GBN), in collaboration with CNN and Raghav Bahl’s TV18.
