CNN has said that it will be laying off 6 per cent of its workforce, a move that could affect around 200 employees.
As per media reports, this is part of the network's restructuring plan that it is taking to adjust to shifts in media consumption patterns.
Reports have quoted CNN CEO Mark Thompson as saying that the laying off has become "necessary to position the network for long-term success".
According to a New York Times report, Thompson said in an interview: “This is a moment where the digital story feels like an existential question...If we do not follow the audiences to the new platforms with real conviction and scale, our future prospects will not be good.”
Thompson has also revealed that CNN will be hiring the same number for new digital roles like data scientists and product engineers in the first half of the year.
