Bloomsbury, the publisher behind the Harry Potter series, is set to receive a payout under a proposed $1.5 billion copyright settlement involving Anthropic. The case also includes thousands of authors who have alleged that copyrighted books were used to train artificial intelligence models.
The publisher has said 14,087 of its titles are included in the agreement, with compensation estimated at roughly $3,000 per title. The company expects to receive the funds in installments, potentially beginning in the second half of its current financial year, media networks have reported.
Bloomsbury has also said that the proceeds will be shared with eligible authors.
After deducting legal fees and other costs of around 10%, the publisher and participating authors are expected to receive approximately $19 million in total.
