A fresh wave of layoffs at Oracle has drawn widespread attention, not just for its scale but also for how the process has unfolded.
Reports indicate that the company is cutting up to 30,000 roles globally, with nearly 12,000 employees impacted in India, making it one of the most significant workforce reductions at the company in recent years. The layoffs are understood to span multiple regions and departments, forming part of a broader restructuring effort.
What has stood out, however, is the manner in which employees were informed.
Emails at 6 AM, access cut soon after
Many affected employees reported receiving termination emails early in the morning, in some cases around 6 am EST, informing them that their roles had been eliminated and that the same day would be their last working day.
The termination email, sent from “Oracle Leadership,” reportedly read: “We are sharing some difficult news regarding your position. After careful consideration of Oracle’s current business needs, we have made the decision to eliminate your role as part of a broader organizational change. As a result, today is your last working day.”
Employees were instructed to provide a personal email address for further communication, and their system access was revoked immediately.
Individual cases highlight human impact
Beyond the numbers, several accounts shared publicly have highlighted the human side of the layoffs.
At the senior level, the layoffs also affected long-tenured leadership. Sharat Chander, a senior director and global head of developer community engagement, confirmed his exit after 16 years with the company.
Well, my #Java journey has come to an end. Today my role at @Oracle has been terminated.

I’m open to any job leads y’all may have.
One case involved a software engineer who was 30 weeks pregnant. According to a LinkedIn post by her husband, she was informed of the layoff through a 6 am email, with no prior call, meeting, or warning. He described how she lost access to all systems immediately, despite years of contribution to the company, including mentoring interns and working on internal developer initiatives.
Another case involved an employee undergoing cancer treatment, who was reportedly laid off after nearly two decades at the company without direct communication. The absence of a conversation in such circumstances became a focal point in online discussions around the process.
Many individual cases like these are emerging on social media platforms like LinkedIn and X.
What severance looks like
In the United States, the severance structure being offered follows a defined formula. Affected employees are reportedly receiving four weeks of base salary, along with one additional week of pay for every year of service, capped at 26 weeks.
The process requires employees to sign termination documents digitally before accessing these benefits, with further communication routed to personal email addresses post-exit.
The job cuts are part of Oracle’s broader restructuring efforts, aimed at reducing costs and redirecting resources toward AI and cloud infrastructure investments. Reports suggest another round of layoffs in India could occur within the next month. Oracle has not issued an official public statement confirming the exact numbers or the reasons behind the reductions.
This places Oracle within a wider industry pattern, where companies are restructuring to prioritise technical capabilities and long-term infrastructure bets.
