The Noida Police has arrested two journalists, Bharat24 anchor Shazia Nisar and Amar Ujala Digital's Adarsh Jha, on charges of alleged extortion and blackmailing.

Several serious sections have been imposed on both of them and they have been sent to 14 days' judicial custody.

Media reports quoted the police as saying that Rs 34.5 lakh in cash has been recovered from Shazia Nisar's residence. Along with this, mobile phones, laptops and a Scorpio car have also been seized. The police also said that they have audio and video evidence in which both the accused are allegedly seen demanding money and threatening the channel management.

Three separate FIRs have been lodged by the management of 'Bharat 24'.

The complaint alleged that the accused threatened to implicate a senior editor of 'Bharat24' in false charges of sexual harassment and demanded Rs 65 crore, starting from Rs 5 crore.

At the same time, Noida Police says that the investigation is still in its initial stages and it is likely that a big blackmail syndicate may also be active in this case. The police is also investigating the role of other related people. At present, both the journalists are in judicial custody and the police may demand remand from the court for further interrogation.
