- Amazon Prime Video will become the exclusive global home of the Emmy Awards starting in 2027, ending the traditional rotation among ABC, CBS, Fox, and NBC.
- The Emmys will stream live on Prime Video beginning next year, available free to viewers in over 240 countries and territories without a Prime subscription.
- This agreement allows the Television Academy to develop the Emmys into a year-round property, leveraging Amazon's services for enhanced fan experiences.
- The shift reflects a broader trend of premium live events moving from traditional broadcast television to global streaming platforms, with the Academy Awards also set to transition to YouTube in 2029.
The six-year deal ends the Emmys’ traditional rotation across ABC, CBS, Fox and NBC, as premium live events continue shifting from broadcast television to streaming platforms.
Amazon Prime Video will become the exclusive global home of the Emmy Awards from 2027 under a six-year agreement with the Television Academy, marking another major live-event property moving away from traditional broadcast television.
Beginning with next year’s ceremony, the Emmys will stream live on Prime Video in September and will be available free to viewers in more than 240 countries and territories, with no Prime subscription required. Financial terms of the agreement were not disclosed.
The deal brings an end to the Television Academy’s long-running “Wheel Deal”, under which the annual awards ceremony rotated among US broadcasters ABC, CBS, Fox and NBC. The 2026 ceremony was the final edition under that arrangement.
For Amazon, the Emmys add another high-profile live property to Prime Video as the platform expands beyond on-demand films and series into sports, events and other appointment-viewing programming.
The shift also reflects a wider migration of premium cultural events towards global streaming platforms. The Academy Awards are set to make a similar move in 2029, when the Oscars will leave ABC and begin streaming worldwide on YouTube.
The Television Academy said the Prime Video agreement would also allow it to build the Emmys into a year-round property, with Amazon using its broader services and platforms to create additional fan experiences beyond the September ceremony.
For India, the deal means viewers will be able to watch the Emmys live through Prime Video without requiring a paid subscription. More broadly, it adds to the growing importance of global streaming platforms as destinations for premium live programming, creating increasingly valuable environments for advertisers seeking audiences around major entertainment and sporting events.
