Landor designs logo and look for GOI’s new digital payments solution, Bharat QR

On 20th February, the Government of India officially launched Bharat QR, a radical digital payments solution system for the Indian economy. Landor, specializing in brand consulting and design, was the agency responsible to design the logo and the look for the new payments solution.
With the government encouraging the adoption of digital payment solutions and QR based payments, post demonetization, it was essential that digital payment solutions across all businesses were seamless.
Bharat QR is a unified, low-cost, and scalable system that offers easy payment solutions for both merchants and consumers. Three payment networks operating in India—Visa, Mastercard, and National Payments Corporation of India collaborated to develop Bharat QR.
Kurnal Rawat, Creative Director, Landor, shares, “For this project, we had to consider a very large audience—an audience that doesn’t have a bank account to the digital-savvy millennials. So, that was a very interesting brief as well as a challenge for us; to create something that could straddle across such a wide spectrum of target audience. We had to create something that was simple, clear, and easy-to-understand.”
The logo was created using India’s tricolour. Simple in its form, the logo encapsulates the ease of using the service and collaboration between various partners. The ‘QR’ has been stylized to show a harmonious marriage between digital technology and physical money. Along with the logo, Landor has also created the look of Bharat QR at various touch points like the mobile app and in-store marketing collaterals.
