Sanjay Thapar has put in his papers as Group CEO of Bates India. Thapar, who had joined the agency in May 2012, was with Ogilvy for 14 years before that. Thapar took over Bates India operations to give the agency stability after Sonal Dabral, Chairman and Regional Executive Director, Bates and Sandeep Pathak, then CEO, had left the agency within a short period.
“David Mayo will oversee the India operations. Bates is in a good place now, I have done my job. I will be moving out of the advertising industry,” said Thapar, while commenting on his exit from Bates.
Thapar started his career with Bata India. He then joined Ramms India, a start-up company, wherein he was instrumental in setting up the company, systems and processes as well as growing the operations manifold, before moving on to Mudra Communications, Kolkata, and then Ogilvy.
