OpenAI has appointed Tom Duff Gordon as Vice President, Head of EMEA Policy. Gordon shared the update through a LinkedIn post, announcing that he is beginning a “new chapter” at the AI company.

In his post, Gordon said artificial intelligence is a general purpose technology that will significantly reshape economies, markets, and societies in the coming years. He added that the transformation driven by AI will be profound and is expected to happen soon.

"Delighted to share that I’m starting a new chapter as VP EMEA Policy at OpenAI. AI is a general purpose technology that will radically reshape economies, markets, and societies. The transformation will be profound, and is coming soon. Policy must keep pace with accelerating technology change. I’m excited to work with policymakers on ways to ensure that abundant intelligence is shared broadly and safely, driving economic growth and opportunity for everyone. We must be clear-eyed about the risks, whilst preparing to capture the tremendous upside across science, healthcare, education, the world of work, and more. I’m particularly excited to work with Chris Lehane Ann O'Leary, George Osborne, and the excellent EMEA Policy team", he said in his post.

Gordon will lead policy-related efforts for Europe, the Middle East and Africa (EMEA) at OpenAI, at a time when governments and regulators across the region are increasingly focusing on AI governance, safety and innovation.
