Karan Rajendra Darda, Executive Director and Editorial Director of Lokmat Media Group, is set to take over as President of the Indian Newspaper Society (INS) for the 2026–27 term.

Darda will succeed Vivek Gupta of Sanmarg, who headed the Society during 2025–26. The transition is expected to be formalised following the 87th Annual General Meeting of the INS.

He currently serves as Deputy President of the INS. Before assuming this position, he was Vice President of the Society during 2024–25, marking a steady progression through its leadership ranks.

At Lokmat, Darda has been closely involved in operations, circulation, editorial strategy and the conceptualisation of marketing initiatives. He has also been a prominent voice on issues concerning print readership, audience measurement and the need to strengthen advertiser confidence in newspapers.

Darda is also part of the Audit Bureau of Circulations’ Council of Management for 2026–27, further underlining his association with key industry institutions.

His elevation comes at a significant time for the newspaper industry as publishers navigate changing consumption habits, digital transformation, rising input costs and the need for credible cross-platform audience measurement.

The INS represents newspapers, magazines and periodicals across the country and works to promote and safeguard the business interests of its member publications. As President, Darda will lead the Society’s engagement with publishers, advertisers, government bodies and other stakeholders on issues affecting the print media ecosystem.
