Jacob Andreou, a former Snap executive currently part of Microsoft’s AI division, has been appointed Executive Vice President to oversee the Copilot experience across both segments.

He will report directly to CEO Satya Nadella. Alongside him, Ryan Roslansky, Perry Clarke and Charles Lamanna will continue leading Microsoft 365 applications and the Copilot platform, also reporting to Nadella.

The move enables Mustafa Suleyman, head of Microsoft’s AI group, to concentrate on advancing generative AI models. Suleyman, who joined Microsoft through the Inflection deal in 2024 and previously co-founded DeepMind, will now prioritise the development of enterprise-focused AI systems while remaining involved in broader AI operations, including Bing.

The restructuring comes at a time when Copilot is yet to achieve scale comparable to competitors. The Copilot app recorded 6 million daily active users in February, significantly lower than ChatGPT’s 440 million and Google’s Gemini at 82 million. In March, Anthropic’s Claude reached 9 million daily users, while Copilot remained at 6 million. On the enterprise side, only about 3% of Microsoft 365 commercial subscribers currently have access to the Copilot add-on.

Microsoft continues to build capabilities across code, image, audio and reasoning models, while also leveraging OpenAI’s technology, with intellectual property rights secured through 2032. The shift reflects a broader strategy to strengthen the model layer as competition intensifies and investor scrutiny on AI returns grows.
