  • Hajime Aota has been appointed as the new Chairman of India Yamaha Motor (IYM) Pvt. Ltd., effective January 1, 2026.

India Yamaha Motor (IYM) Pvt. Ltd. has named Hajime Aota as the new Chairman of the Yamaha Motor India Group, with the appointment taking effect from January 1, 2026.
 
Aota comes with wide-ranging experience in corporate strategy, planning and new business development in the automotive industry. Over the years, he has held senior leadership positions across major global markets, including Japan, the US and the UK. Before taking on the India role, he served as Executive Officer at Yamaha Motor Co., Ltd. and Chief General Manager – Corporate Strategy Center (CSO) at the company’s global headquarters in Japan. In this position, he led corporate strategy, sustainability and digital initiatives, with a strong emphasis on digital transformation, the company said in a press release.
 
He has also been the Chairperson of Yamaha Motor Ventures & Laboratory Silicon Valley (YMVSV), the group’s strategic venture capital arm. In this role, he guided early-stage investments in areas such as robotics, mobility, fintech, insurtech, digital health and data-led technologies. Aota has played a key role in driving new business initiatives and corporate planning, contributing to the long-term growth plans of the global Yamaha Motor Group. He was also closely involved in shaping Yamaha Motor’s 2030 long-term vision, “Art for Human Possibilities,” and continues to support its execution.
 
Aota holds a Program for Leadership Development (PLD) from Harvard Business School and has a degree in Political Science from Keio University, Japan.
 
Sharing his thoughts on the appointment, Hajime Aota said he is excited to begin his journey in India, one of the world’s most dynamic two-wheeler markets. He highlighted that the changing aspirations of Indian consumers, especially young riders, align well with Yamaha’s focus on premium offerings, innovation and customer-centricity. He added that his priority will be to strengthen the Yamaha brand in India by delivering products that blend global engineering expertise with local needs, while working closely with teams and partners to drive sustainable growth in the market.
