Gary Coombe has stepped down as CEO of Procter & Gamble's Global Grooming Business, marking his final day leading the business before retiring from the company in September after a 40-year career.
Sharing the news in a LinkedIn post, Coombe said that deciding to retire was one of the easiest decisions he had taken during his four decades at P&G, adding that he believed the time was right for someone else to lead the business.
"The time was right for someone else to have a go and there is so much waiting for me in retirement with family, friends, passion projects and board roles," he wrote in his post.
He thanked colleagues across the Gillette business for making his final weeks memorable through their support, generosity and kind words.
"I am thrilled to be passing the torch to Juliana Azevedo. Ju is an outstanding leader and the perfect person to lead Gillette and P&G Grooming into the future. She is a passionate brand-builder, a razor-sharp mind, a kind and empathetic leader, and she will bring boundless energy and enthusiasm with brilliant creativity to her work every day. Together with the incredible P&G Gillette team, I know you will write the next great chapter in this company’s proud history", the post added.
Coombe's career at P&G spanned 40 years, during which he held several leadership roles before taking charge of the company's Global Grooming Business, which includes the iconic Gillette brand. His retirement will officially take effect in September.
