Over the past few days, we have been reading about a slew of high profile media exits. However, the recent exit of TV9 Bharatvarsh’s Consulting Editor Ajit Anjum has come with conflicting explanations.
While many have termed Anjum’s stepping down as a case of inside vendetta, according to reliable sources, the real reason for Anjum’s exit was the termination of his contract with the media house.
Sources have also revealed that the management did not extend Anjum’s contract. “The contract was not extended owing to the poor performance of his show. While the overall rating of the channel was steadily growing, his show 'Rashtriya Behas' was steadily losing its grip on the audience and was reduced to 30 min from an initial 60-min run. Surprisingly, the show after and before him attracted more viewership numbers. There was no reason for the management to continue the show and hence his contract was not renewed. This is the only reason behind this high profile exit,” stated the source.
Anjum’s career spans over three decades during which he has worked with leading media houses in senior roles. He has worked as Managing Editor with News 24 and India TV news channels. He is also the recipient of Ramnath Goenka Excellence in Journalism Award (2010).
