Reliance Industries Limited (RIL) has announced the completion of the merger between two of its subsidiaries – Star Television Productions Limited (STPL) and Star India Private Limited, now known as Jiostar India Private Limited.
According to a company disclosure made under regulatory filings, Jiostar informed RIL on November 30 that the scheme of arrangement for the merger has officially become effective the same day. As a result, STPL now stands merged with Jiostar. It stated, “Jiostar has, on November 30, 2025 at 6:09 p.m. (IST), informed the Company that the said scheme has become effective from November 30, 2025 and STPL stands merged with Jiostar.”
STPL previously owned the ‘Star’ brand and licensed it to various group companies. Following the merger, the brand’s ownership and licensing functions now move directly under Jiostar, rather than being housed in a separate Reliance subsidiary.
The move is part of Reliance’s broader media restructuring completed last year. RIL had outlined the merger plan on November 14, 2024, when it proposed combining STPL with Star India, now Jiostar India. Jiostar was formed the same year as a joint venture between Reliance’s media business and Disney’s India operations.
