Old and reliable shows Kumkum Bhagya and CID rose to the occasion for Zee and Sony
While long-running serials like Diya Aur Baati Hum on Star Plus fell in ratings, others like Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashma on SAB and Kumkum Bhagya and Jamai Raja on Zee boosted ratings in week 47
Week 47 (November 16 – 22, 2014) saw Hindi GEC channels have mixed fortunes. While few channels such as Zee TV, Life OK and Sony Entertainment Television (Sony TV) did well on the ratings chart, others such as Star Plus, Colors and SAB TV failed to deliver ratings. We take an in-depth look into what went right and what went wrong for these channels this week.
According to data sourced from TAM subscribers, week 47 saw leader in the Hindi GEC segment, Star Plus, drop to 631 million GVTs in week 47 from 658 million GVTs in week 46 (November 9 – 15, 2014). Most of the top shows on the channel saw a marginal decline in their ratings. Shows such as Diya Aur Baati Hum, Yeh Hai Mohabbatein, Saath Nibhana Saathiya and Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai declined from 14.0, 9.6, 9.6 and 8.0 TVTs in week 46 to 13.4, 9.3, 8.8 and 7.7 TVTs in week 47 respectively. Newly launched show Everest however continued its good performance this week too as it increase its ratings from 3.1 TVTs in week 46 to 3.6 TVTs in week 47. It even did better than shows such as India’s Raw Stars and Airlines which lagged at the bottom of the chart with 1.8 and 1.7 TVTs respectively.
In the second spot Colors, which witnessed a marginal decline this week, saw its ratings slip a little in week 47 to 482 million GVTs from 483 million GVTs in week 46. While some top shows saw a decline there were others that saw slight increases in week 47. Sasural Simar Ka, Udaan, Meri Aashiqui Tum Se Hi declined to 7.3, 6.8 and 5.6 TVTs from 7.7, 7.3 and 5.7 TVTs respectively. On the other hand, Comedy Nights with Kapil and Bigg Boss 8 increased to 6.4 and 5.1 TVTs from 6.1 and 4.9 TVTs respectively. Colors also telecast the ITA Awards during this week which brought in 2.5 TVTs.
Zee TV’s ratings continued to grow this week on the back of last week’s rise. The channels ratings saw an increase to 433 million GVTs this week from 419 million GVTs last week. Most of the top shows saw an increase in their ratings. Kumkum Bhagya increased from 6.8 TVTs in week 46 to 8.0 TVTs in week 47. Jamai Raja increase to 7.1 TVTs in week 47 from 6.6 TVTs in week 46. Qubool Hai and Aur Pyaar Ho Gaya increased from 6.0 and 4.9 TVTs in week 46 to 6.5 and 5.7 TVTs in week 47 respectively. New show Aryan slipped a little from 3.0 TVTs in week 46 to 2.6 TVTs in week 47.
Life OK at No. 4 spot saw an increase in its ratings this week as it rose from 313 million GVTs in week 46 to 326 million GVTs in week 47. Most of the shows saw a slight increase in their ratings which helped push up the ratings of the channel. Savdhan India, Comedy Classes and Shapath increased to 3.0, 2.2 and 1.7 TVTs in week 47 from 2.9, 2.1 and 1.5 TVTs in week 46 respectively. Ajeeb Dastaan Hai Yeh stayed the same as last week at 1.5 TVTs. New show Mere Rang Mein Rangnewali in its first week brought in ratings of 1.5 TVTs.
SAB TV at No.5 spot on the other hand declined to 276 million GVTs this week from 296 million GVTs in week 46. Though Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashma and Chidiya Ghar both saw a slight increase in their ratings from 7.1 and 2.7 TVTs in week 46 to 7.2 and 2.8 TVTs in week 47 respectively, shows such Balveer and Badi Door Se Aaye Hai saw a decline in ratings to 2.6 and 2.3 TVTs in week 47 from 2.8 and 2.5 TVTs in week 46 respectively.
SET saw a big increase in its ratings to 207 million GVTs in week 47 from 190 million GVTs in week 46. CID made the largest gain for the channel during the week as it increased to 3.6 TVTs in week 47 from 3.1 TVTs in week 46. Other shows such as Maharana Pratap and Adaalat increased marginally to 2.6 and 1.6 TVTs from 2.5 and 1.5 TVTs respectively. New show Itna Karo Na Mujhe Pyaar got off to a not so good start of 1.4 TVTs in week 47.For more updates, be socially connected with us on
