Ekta Kapoor, Joint Managing Director and Creative Director of Balaji Telefilms, is a powerhouse in the Indian entertainment industry. Known as the "Queen of Indian Television," she revolutionised the television landscape with iconic daily soaps that became household favourites. 

With a keen understanding of audience preferences, she introduced strong storytelling, dramatic narratives, and unforgettable characters, shaping Indian television for over two decades.

In 2001, Balaji Motion Pictures was launched as a subsidiary company of Balaji Telefilms Limited, which is a film production and distribution company. In April 2017, she launched ALTBalaji, a video on demand platform.

In 2017, Kapoor also launched her biography, Kingdom of the Soap Queen: The Story of Balaji Telefilms. Ekta Kapoor was honoured with the Padma Shri in 2020 for her work in the field of arts. She is also honoured with the 2023 International Emmy Directorate Award at the 51st International Emmy Awards.

She has won a number of awards under her belt, including Ernst & Young (Entrepreneur of the Year 2001) and the American Biographical Institute (Woman of the Year 2001). She was also placed at first position among the ‘50 Most Influential Women’ in the Indian marketing, advertising and media ecosystems by IMPACT magazine in 2016. She also featured in the Top 50 Powerful Women in India by Fortune India in the years 2014 and 2015, among others.
