Essel Group Chairman Dr Subhash Chandra has announced the establishment of Sh. Nand Kishore Goenka University in Agroha, Haryana, with an investment of ₹100 crore, in memory of his late father, Shri Nand Kishore Goenka, who passed away earlier this week at the age of 96. The announcement was made during the funeral ceremony held in Agroha.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr Chandra said the university would be a tribute to his father's lifelong commitment to education, social service and nation-building. The proposed institution aims to provide world-class higher education while carrying forward the values of service, integrity and excellence that Nand Kishore Goenka embodied.
The university will come up in Agroha, a town of historical and cultural significance associated with Maharaja Agrasen. The project is expected to become a major educational institution in the region and contribute to skill development, research and academic excellence for future generations.
Sh. Nand Kishore Goenka was widely respected for his contribution to community welfare, Gau Seva and social work. A lifelong Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) volunteer, he was known for leading a life rooted in simplicity, philanthropy and public service.
Announcing the initiative, Dr Chandra said the university would ensure that his father's legacy continues to inspire generations through education and institution-building. The ₹100 crore project is envisioned as a long-term investment in the country's educational ecosystem and a lasting tribute to a life dedicated to society.
